  1. Yep

can anyone explain this ‘cartoon’ ? what does it mean ? (clever Cadillac drawing…)

    • Able Allen

Sure! In the first panel, a protester is seeking the city water system’s de-fluoridation. In the second panel a driver runs off the road and striking the protestor. In the third panel it is revealed that the driver is in fact from Florida, the protester was injured and the protester’s sign has been appropriately either broken or changed to his new cause as anti-Florida-tion.

I think the thrust of the gist of the cartoon is the fact that Floridians are the only people on earth who are worse drivers than WNC locals.

Perhaps if you got out in the world now and then, rather than hiding in an underground bunker so as to protect yourself from exposure to anyone whose politics are to the left of Genghis Khan, you’d know that.

Poverty mentality Appalachian Asheville would be an economic black hole without Florida tourists…. So ungrateful; and unappreciative!

    • boatrocker

Yes, Jason, I agree. Let’s all take a moment to thank Floridiots for demanding that quaint lil’ Asheville gentrify itself putting unsustainable development as priority #1 so our town resembles the town they all traveled from to visit.

How else can we help you, oh tourist overlords? We live only to serve.

The largest employer in Asheville is Mission Hospital: Doctors, Nurses and highly-paid administrators. The next largest employers are the City and County schools systems and governments: teachers, lawyers and (again) highly-paid administrators. HARDLY “poverty mentality” people.

Before you get on your high horse about discrimination against elderly Floridians who drive too slow or unsafely (which I HAVE observed to be true) you need to deal with your own INACCURATE stereotyping of Asheville as being full of poor mountaineers who desperately need outsider income. Most “mountain folk” I know avoid the city limits like the plague unless they are going to the county courthouse.

Are you denying or alsuggesting tourist isn’t important to our economy; if not A TOP job creater? Are you suggesting that we as a community shouldn’t be greatful, humble, and greatful for our robust and thriving tourism industry? If you are; which it would certainly seem so, I’d like to remind you that county, city politicians, and entrepreneurs (like myself) have worked very hard for years to establish Asheville as a top destination; and to crap on “floridians” and the way they drive in a local paper is ignorant and damaging. BIG AL!? More like BIG IDIOT!!

        • Big Al

I’ll stop “crapping on” Floridians when you and your ilk stop stereotyping Asheville’s locals as redneck hicks. This cartoon is dead on with what I have observed, but I have seldom seen anyone within the city limits who matches your description of “poverty mentality” people.

Asheville will do just fine without Florida money, and can certainly do without their attitudes…or YOURS!

          • Yep

HUH? just look around INTOWN! the poverty mentality is RAMPANT with all the beggars looking for constant handouts…it’s a pathetic town.
