Letter: A quaint lack of understanding of LGBTQ issues

Graphic by Lori Deaton

As an M to F transgender, I found Carl Mumpower’s latest letter [LGBTQ Coalition Promotes Legislative Mischief,” April 17, Xpress] quaint in its complete lack of understanding of who we are and what we face.

We are not “trying to convert ladies’ restrooms into a full-access resource for those with a penis.” Nothing could be further from the truth. It is high time we end the idea that trans people are rapacious predators or perverts. All we want from the restroom situation is to be treated as the women (and men — nobody ever complains about F to M transgenders using the men’s room) we are, and to have a place to do our business in peace and afford cisgender people that same peace.

Nobody is trying to convert children into gender fluidity, Carl, we are just allowing them to express what they feel naturally.

Mumpower further accuses the LGBTQ community of padding its size. Is he saying if we are a smaller group, that makes us OK to be discriminated against?

Finally, he must be mellowing in his old age, because he writes that, “The original LGBTQ movement had a rightful mission of challenging the bias and abuse of those not fitting into nature’s clear preference for two genders.” (Not true, but that is the subject for another letter.) It is not much of a compliment, but I, for one, will take it.

  1. Enlightened Enigma

…and it is also quaint to realize that transgenderism is a mental disorder now treated and presented as mainstream…

Ah yes…. Carl Mumpower, the marriage and family therapist, and author of, “A Guy’s Guide To Marriage,” — who has been married 4 times. The same Carl Mumpower who thought it was funny to post jokes about rape and sexual assault during the Kavanaugh hearings, using the Buncombe County GOP twitter account. The guy has a sense of irony; I’ll give him that. Are we really supposed to take his views on any matters related to family, sexuality, child rearing, or any similar issue seriously?

    The hypocritical Repuke Mumpower aside,

Sane and educated people do understand that you don’t treat mental disorders by hacking at someone’s body.

    Bipolars aren’t surgically altered.
    Schizophrenics aren’t surgically altered.
    Paranoid-delusionals aren’t surgically altered.

I’m with Dr. Paul R. McKnight and Dr. Michelle Cretella on this one…”transgendersim is a mental disorder and we do the public at large nor those suffering transgenderism any favors by treating their confusions as a right in need of defending rather than as a mental disorder that deserves understanding, treatment and prevention.”

    • SpareChange

Just to provide some context: Michelle Cretella is President of the American College of Pediatricians. A very official sounding organization which is a splinter group with an estimated 200 members (Cretella has been reluctant to provide accurate documentation of membership), which split off from the 66,000+ member American Academy of Pediatrics after AAP endorsed adoptions by same sex couples.

Cretella and ACP oppose same sex marriage, adoption by same sex couples, link homosexuality to pedophilia, endorse sexual orientation conversion therapy for homosexual youth, believes homosexuals and transgender people have a mental illness, and has called transgender health care for youth child abuse. People can draw their own conclusions.

      • C-Law

That is correct. Homosexuality, transgender, pedophilia, bestiality and the like are and only until cultural Marxism began to infect the medical academy where all regarded as the mental disorders that they are. But it’s a mad, mad, mad, world mate, eh!?

By the by, what’s your beef with Dr. McKnight’s position?

Thanks for your posting. I take issue with two points you raise:

    1. Children learn behavior, skills, knowledge in many ways. One of which is observing the behavior of adults or nearly adults. If you desire to teach them (children) wittingly, unwittingly, or by example that gender identity is something other than the sex discovered scientifically and biologically at birth, then you most likely will forever find resistance in any community you reside in. This resistance is not born from hate, but from a firm belief in certain long held values that many believe, including myself, that are prescribed for successful societies. If you translate that into hate or bigotry, you miss the point which is quite possibly self defeating.
    2. You use the term cisgender for a reason not clear to me. This term has become popular with some only in the last several years. I suspect it is because the term is more palatable to those who may agree with your philosophy of gender identity and representative of choice. You may find that more people who disagree with you will be willing to listen to your point of view if you will simply refer to a male as a male and a female as a female as the Doc would do at birth. We used to call that “straight”, but name calling usually leads to someone being disappointed.

    Hope that helps, best wishes!

The whole LGBTXWZ issue is politicized and weaponized bull. Nothing points to a dying culture than one where its members DISDAIN the sex they were born and FEEL, they key word here is FEEL the need to change it. On the opposite end you have big corps importing cheap labor by the tens of thousands through open borders while mass media, political psychopaths, and “intellectuals” continue to push native citizens into suicide via not reproducing. Or use abortion to kill the next generation off under the guise of “women’s health”. Gays, lesbians, and transgenders don’t reproduce naturally. Nor do they comprehend that the upcoming replacement population that takes over won’t tolerate them. So in the end, Darwin will be proven right. The weak will simply be bred out. And weak not in terms if physical strength but simply because they bought into the lie that western culture has become. Yeah it’s open and accepting but that’s been perverted now into power grabs and political lunacy to the point of being replaced out of existence.

“Nobody is trying to convert children into gender fluidity, Carl, we are just allowing them to express what they feel naturally.”

    Not entirely accurate.

Interestingly an Asheville Middle School teacher has repeatedly asked his students this year “what if being straight is a passing phase?”

While this city attracts those off from center, many in this odd hamlet have forgotten they are the minority and will always be so. The world will not change immediately for you. It often takes a generation or more.
