Letter: Hoping Buncombe Republicans provide new material for Molton

Graphic by Lori Deaton

Like many, I delight in the talents of Mountain Xpress cartoonist Randy Molton. Though he’s hopelessly habituated to the tired refrains of progressive-liberal-socialism, his work remains fun and fresh.

Going forward, it’s my hope the 45,000 Republicans in Buncombe County will be working extra hard to give him lots of new material.

I don’t think that’s going to be a problem, Carl.

Molton consistently has to explain the meaning of his cartoons in the text. His drawings are middle-school quality. He is bereft of imagination or talent . Mountain Xpress must be truly desperate to keep him on as long as they have and whatever they are paying him is money flushed down the toilet.

It’s usually a challenge to try and ascertain meaning for many of his cartoons…but at least it’s a creative job. What do cartoons like this pay per submission and print cycle ?

I like Carl, but I have to say that this is a really peculiar letter, voicing hope that your party will continue to do things that are worthy of being mocked. Is this some sort of weird psy-ops warfare thing-a-ma-jig?

How about a cartoon tying together city electoral districts, warmer weather and someone getting out his flip-flops?
