Letter: No grounds for protesters’ actions

Graphic by Lori Deaton

[In response to “APD Cannot Silence the Voices of Change,” Aug. 19, Xpress]: … These rioters and looters and destroyers do not have any grounds at all for what they are doing around the country. The Black Lives Matter movement is more racist than anything.

The liberal socialist un-American Democrats have used the Black voters for many years. Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law and sent the Americans’ jobs out of the country. Hillary Clinton said that the Blacks had to be brought to heel! The Obama administration allegedly sent $3.7 million in grants in 2014 to the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China for coronavirus research!

An American can go to Mexico and spend money right and left. They can never vote; they cannot run for any office or receive any benefits from the government! In the same Mountain Xpress copy on the opposite page, there is an ad of a … Hispanic family in the Spanish language for them to be counted in the U.S. census! Billions of the U.S. citizens’ money each year is going to illegal aliens, OK’d by the corrupt we-do-not-care Democrat politicians! This money should be going for American citizens’ needs!

This Asheville father does not have anything of the truth!

— Tom Robinson
Burnsville

Editor’s note: Snopes rated the statement about the Wuhan laboratory as a mixture of truth and false claims (avl.mx/8np).

You seem angry and almost like you have a manic obsession coming up with insults for people who think differently than you.

Did your mom not love you enough when you were little? Hope things get better!

Did you come up with a conclusion first and then cherry pick data points to back up your conclusion? Typically you want to examine data first, then come up with a conclusion.

For example, this claim: The liberal socialist un-American Democrats have used the Black voters for many years. Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law and sent the Americans’ jobs out of the country.

But a 30 second search tells us that you are biased and spinning a narrative. A North American free trade zone was an idea first proposed by Reagan, expanded on by Bush Sr and then implemented by Clinton. When the bill was passed, it had the support of 132 Republicans in the House and 34 Republicans in the Senate. Republicans were delighted to vote for and implement NAFTA!

So when I read a letter like this and find basic information spun to fit a very biased narrative, I stop reading.

Shame on you for writing such a nasty and biased letter. Do yourself a favor and research the topics you are talking about before you talk about them :D

How ignorant is it of you Mr. burnsville for purposely disregarding the change that this community seeks. When a community wants change; our politicians are to heed the call and if they don’t; they should heed the warning. By disregarding this call for change as mere criminal activity; makes u the criminal.

I wish to thank Mr. Robinson for somewhat bravely stating his opinion that is shared by many moderates and conservatives, and wish they had more courage to do so in social media and on opinion pages such as the Mountain Express provides. Though perhaps they might tone down the language a bit, as it’s safe to say that most Democrats likely are not corrupt. Given the fact that the rhetoric from the Left over the past four years has dominated all facets of media, 90% of it at least as direct if not much more nasty and biting than the language Mr. Robinson uses, I would hope that Liberal responders to his comment would be as restrained as those of us on the Right have been over these same four years.

Richard, what restraint are you referring to on the right? Maybe the Trump campaign t-shirts that said “&^%$ your feelings”? Or perhaps Madison Cawthorn’s election night victory tweet of “Cry more lib” that was essentially bullying and trolling several hundred thousand of his new constituents? Let’s not look back to 2016 when Clinton (she’s awful, btw!) lost and how her loss was reveled in for months, if not years…

You may have better luck focusing on members of your own party and ideology and trying to get them to behave before you try looking down your nose at others. You don’t get to hold your adversaries to a higher standard of conduct than you do your allies. Take a hard look at your own ranks and focus your moral condemnation there, as those people will be much more likely to listen to you.
