Jason! You’re still at it! I know that you don’t like people to drive their cars anywhere, but you do need to understand that we all have to live within our budget. The Airport Shuttles fare from Highlands is about $165 per person, each way, and Uber comes out to be about $70 each way. I realize that as an idealist, it is fun to lecture folks who deal with the real world. But please try to be just a bit more in touch with it.
Believe me, it will do a lot more for your advocacy for your pet cause. Geez, thought my last reply to you was taken more seriously.

Bus. Though not from Highlands. And taxi/rideshare from Highlands will be $100+ each way.

There’s a interaction design concept called “dark patterns”: a way of presenting things that encourages users to make choices they didn’t intend. That can mean signing up for recurring billing or advertising a cheaper option but making it hard to select. There are a lot of dark patterns now at work at the airport, whether it’s the squeeze on long-term spaces or the layout and signage. Blaming users just encourages more deception.

I guess the airport doesn’t want private satellite surface lots on Airport Road, but it’s going to happen.

        Yes, good prediction from Luther!
Satellite lots will be the answer, and the nightmare for the short sightedness and “in your face” attitude of the AVL Regional Airport Board of Directors towards airport users.
Thank you Jim M. for your letter and keeping this issue before the public.

It’s not the signage, so much as a deliberate effort to get you to pay more that the $8/day in the Long Term lots. Next time, just go straight through the short time to the garage entrance at the end. It is “only” $13/day in the garage. And that is where you are correct about the signs not making that clear, forcing you to park short of the entrance in Short Term.
