Letter writer: Be part of the swarm to take back North Carolina

Graphic by Lori Deaton

Now that the [recent] debate between the two main presidential candidates is over, those of you still on the fence have to make a choice.

This is what I’m certain of if Hillary Clinton is elected president: Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren will work hard to help her implement the most progressive Democratic platform ever and that Hillary will be a champion for early childhood education, affordable college education and take on student debt so that every one of our children has the chance to live up to their potential. The next Supreme Court justice nominated by a Democratic president can overturn Citizens United.

This is what I’m certain of if Donald Trump is elected president: He will still be a misogynist and a racist in office. He will dismantle Planned Parenthood, environmental protections and make sure that the next Supreme Court justice will be an extreme conservative who can help overturn Roe v. Wade.

This is what I’m certain of if you vote for a third-party candidate.: Your choice will not have an outcome because they will not win.

You can say your one vote does not matter, but each vote does matter. As the Dalai Lama says, “If you think you’re too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a room with a mosquito.”

It is vital you turn out to vote also for your state and local candidates this election and be part of the swarm of mosquitos that can take back our state of North Carolina and repeal HB2, which has done irreparable economic and social harm to our state.

So vote early from Oct. 20 to Nov. 5, take a selfie with your “I voted” sign and challenge all your friends on Facebook to early vote as well. Our future can be much brighter with a Democratic governor and legislature in North Carolina who believe in our values — on education and on social, economic, health care and environmental issues.

What a dumb, biased letter. If Clinton gets elected count on continuation of disastrous US policy in the Mideast. Her foreign policy is straight out of the Bush/Cheney playbook, but this time US aggression won’t be against a 3rd world country that can’t defend itself, but against Russia, a nuclear power that is giving all indications that it is prepared to use nuclear weapons if the US pursues a course of confrontation. What business does the US have in Syria? Syria, Russia and Turkey are doing a good job of eliminating ISIS and Al Queda there. It’s their neighborhood, let them handle it. Russia is Syria’s invited guest; the US is there illegally and not welcome.

      “What a dumb, biased letter”

Of course it is biased. LTE are supposed to be as they express the opinion of the letter writer, just as your biased post does.

      • Snowflake (Social Justice Worrier)

Calling a person a misogynist and a racist is biased opinion. That’s where i stopped reading.

My post was based on facts. Clinton’s foreign policy is responsible for the destruction of Libya and now Syria. Where is the liberal outrage for destroying these countries for no reason? She has said that Syria is her #1 priority and will implement a no-fly zone there. There already is a Russian no-fly zone over much of Syria. If the US steps out of line again like they did in Dier Ezzor by bombing the Syrian army (and supposed killing some Russians), Russia has said that their planes will be shot down. The only way to take out this NFZ is to start a war with Russia. This is getting very serious, and a war-mongering president like Clinton will lead to catastrophe.

        • The Real World

“Clinton’s foreign policy is responsible for the destruction of Libya and now Syria. Where is the liberal outrage for destroying these countries for no reason? ” —- oh there’s a likely reason, the same one responsible for most all wars and invasions: raw commodities or the access routes to them (not ideology, as many assume).

Libya – Oil reserves in Libya are the largest in Africa and among the ten largest globally with 46.4 billion barrels as of 2010. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_reserves_in_Libya

Syria – their number is much smaller but still ranks within the top 30 in the world. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_proven_oil_reserves And, perhaps, because it provides a strong geographic foothold adjacent to a primary nemesis – Iran?

          • Snowflake (Social Justice Worrier)

So essentially, virtue signaling that war for oil is evil when Republicans are in power, then look the other way when it’s their candidate pushing that agenda.

A nuclear war with Russia could turn global. Just like England couldn’t fathom a German victory in WW1, China might not accept an American victory over Russia. We are also losing allies. The president of the Philippines just went to China and announced his separation from America. He also cursed Obama strongly and called him a son of a ______.

We never should have went into the Middle East. Saddam, Assad, and the Egyptian government were all protect Christians. Why are we assisting rebels in killing Christians? Crazy Hillary.

  2. The Real World

Clearly, the letter writer doesn’t understand that her attitude is a big part of the problem in America today. “Take it back” from whom, Valerie? From NC residents, taxpayers, citizens who are all part of the fabric of this state?

It is a “I’m the winner and you’re the loser” mentality that is shredding this country. People so often want to point the finger at politicians and the media (they both deserve it) but refuse consider that their own behavior and thinking is a substantial part of the problem.

And, please don’t forget that these attitudes and behaviors are the models for children. They will emulate and adopt them. Then our downward spiral continues.

In the “evolved” 21st century why is it so difficult to: do unto others as you would have them do unto you?

  3. AVL LVR

Everybody vote Trump. Lock Jezebel up!!

Valerie, if you want a socialist country move to Venezuela! America was great because it was a moral Judeo-Christian culture with a free market economy and a limited government. You came here because it was rich and didn’t bother to figure out why it was. Don’t turn our country into the failed terrorist state you came from.

No one is saying America is perfect. There has to be certain amount of income inequality to reward productive citizens, yet we should not let the poorest starve. President Nixion’s minimum income guarantee could solve some of those problems and keep the current economic system in place and help eliminate most government welfare programs.

    • Hauntedheadnc

In the event of a Clinton and Cooper and Ross win, the Democratic takeover of the Senate, and the passage of the bond package in Asheville, will you accept it?

    • bsummers

Leave it to a propagandist to try to equate urging people to go to the polls, with the un-American stance of “I’ll only respect the will of the voters if they elect me President”.

How much is Trump paying you, and does he know you were Tim Moffitt’s bad luck charm? Keep up the good work, BTW.

      • Lulz

You conflate the will of the voters with anyone who lives here, even if they just crossed the border and get government cash and prizes, should be able to vote. We’re in this mess Summers because the election is a free for all now with anyone able to vote. But you’re 20 trillion in debt and those who live off the system are simply voting in their own demise. They’re simply too greedy and ignorant to realize it though.

Funny isn’t it. Bill Clinton says that illegals are going to pay the taxes because they’re young. But if you’re bankrolling their 8 kids with welfare while taxing the citizens out of being able to feed their own kids, what are you exactly accomplishing? Nothing.

Valerie Hoh, “community activist”….hahahahaha!!! Oh brother, another “special snowflake/SJW” enlightening us all with her considered wisdom. Shlomo HaMelech truly had it right in that there is nothing new under the sun. Here is the real deal more truth than most MtnX lefties can handle: You, me, all of us are simply getting front row seats to see what the inevitable (dare we consider planned?) fall of 150 years of Yankee Empire looks like…nothing more, nothing less. Most of you dolts don’t even get the fact that the 2-party rah-rah is just you play-acting a “choice” between one flavor of Yankee tyranny and chains versus a slightly different flavor of Yankee tyranny and chains…Puhlease…y’all need to wake up. The hour is much to late to waste time and energy arguing “politics”, the final act of the collapse of the Yankee Empire draws nigh…you’d best be ready to bring in the ‘maters and nut up, cause the fall will be calamitous, swift, and so unpleasant on so may levels–local, national, and global–we’ll all think the War for Southern Independence and the Second World War were quaint and well, “civil.” Here is the final conclusion, now that you have heard everything: Respect Yah, and keep his mitzvot; this is true wisdom for humanity. For Yah will bring to judgment everything we do (from the great to the small) , including every secret, whether it is good or evil. Shalom Y’all

    • The Real World

Karl – the lefties have no idea what you’re talking about. Everything is fine — their religion tells them so. A few have woken up to the realities but only a few it seems. They pay no attention to what goes on in the rest of the world which often provides clear foreshadowing of what’s to come in the USA.

I’ve done my part to put information forth but the dedicated denial and lack of critical thinking don’t permit much to sink in. They’ll have no one to blame but themselves when they are unprepared for what it coming. Sheep to slaughter, they will be, and I’ll be shaking my head at the willful immaturity and denial that caused the ignorance.

      • bsummers

I used to actually listen to what you post here TRW- you come across as a thoughtful type, even though we didn’t always agree.

It was when you revealed yourself to be a dedicated spinner of deliberate falsehoods, that I lost respect for any of your arguments. You cite news articles to support some point, but then carefully trim out the sentences that contradict that point, hoping that no one will notice. And for what?

Critical thinking exists on these threads – unfortunately for you and the other rightwing sockpuppet propagandists, it giveth and it taketh away.

        • bsummers

So you don’t deny deliberate, selective (and amateurish) editing of quotes from news stories, to further a deceitful propagandist spin on important events? Thanks for that.

    • bsummers

So you’re saying that the Southern Man is kind of stupid, is that what you’re saying?

          • The Real World

I never saw your comment that Mtn X removed. No doubt as crazed as the others. You don’t know me at all. That is your trollish arrogance to think so.

You continually assign me, and others, viewpoints that are not ours. Reading comprehension is a continual problem here. I believe Karl has nailed it.

          • bsummers

I never saw your comment that Mtn X removed.

That’s because they didn’t remove one of mine, they removed one of yours. See bottom of thread, my reply that’s sitting there without a previous comment.

In your case, I haven’t merely “assigned” viewpoints to you – I’ve cited your actions. Deliberately editing words out of quotes from news stories to twist their meaning – those are acts, not a viewpoint.

If after that, I draw a conclusion about your views, well, I have cited evidence to support it. You might try that.

      • Karl Denninger

Haha…nice try BSummers. I think ole Neil Young beat ya to the punch a generation ago.

TRW and I can’t help you…I only know you from what you have posted here on mtnx.

I would not trust you, to give wise counsel or to trust your words, should end of all days be upon us! You lack all Honor!

Your words and beliefs are empty, folly, and come from a dark heart…but such is the nature of evil. Out there in the vast ignorance of the world, it festers and spreads. A shadow that grows in the dark. A sleepless malice as black as the oncoming wall of night. So it ever was, so will it always be. In time all foul things come forth…and we will know them by the fruit they bear.

  5. Karl Denninger

Oh, and was left wondering from Valerie’s analogy–if the left/loons that vote the way she espouses are mosquitoes, what exactly is analogous to the Zika that they carry deep within them ready to pass on to the unsuspecting and those unprotected from the disease they carry? How does one spray for them or otherwise eradicate their threat? Once infected, is there any hope for a cure?

Just wondered since our “community activist” friend, Ms. Hoh, specifically chose to pain the left with that analogy in her original post…

  6. Deplorable Infidel

NC ‘took back’ NC after 140+ years of democrackkk control, domination, and desecration. We are past that kind of CONTROL now, and cannot allow deceptive and devious candidates like clinton, ross and cooper to CONTROL US. These people are EVIL and their records prove it. Heinous individuals.

    • bsummers

You have such strong opinions, Fred Caudle. Why are you so terrified to post them under your real name, Fred Caudle?

      • Deplorable Infidel

again, WHAT line of work are you in Mr. Summers ? WHERE do you WORK ?

          • bsummers

He sounds like a DNC operative.

MAN! Thanks! Can I quote you when I go looking for a paycheck for all this volunteer work?

  7. Able Allen

This thread is devolving into a slug fest. You are welcome to talk politics, but hurling insults back and forth is not helping anyone. Let’s pump the brakes here.
