Letter writer: Big Energy connections doomed McCrory

Graphic by Lori Deaton

In addition to the unpopular HB2, [Gov. Pat] McCrory also lost re-election because he is viewed as corrupt with his connections to Duke Energy.

North Carolinians don’t want fracking; we want safe, clean water. The Big Energy companies that put forth politicians to push pillaging and polluting practices use “moral/religious” issues as a means to divide people.

Politicians representing Big Energy — all they want is to abuse the land, pollute our health and get our money. That is another reason McCrory is out.

  1. 1. Support for HB2 has been woefully undercovered.

A majority polled either see HB2 favorably or have no opinion:

    2. Fracking does not lead to contamination of water. A new report from the EPA claims that SOME fracking-related activities (not fracking) MAY cause SOME contamination in SOME circumstances. But, the report remained “full of gaps and holes,” and that the issue “required far more study,” said Thomas A. Burke, the E.P.A.’s science adviser, and deputy assistant administrator of the agency’s Office of Research and Development.

    3. Governor McCrory lost the election mainly on the toll roads issue.

McCrory will now go on to become President Trump’s Director of FEMA.

“McCrory will now go on to become President Trump’s Director of FEMA.”

Awesome! What better way to start off a new administration than hiring a failed governor?

From cited NYT article you posted a link to: ‘Mr. Burke said that the new report found evidence that fracking has contributed to drinking water contamination in all stages of the process: acquiring water to be used for fracking, mixing the water with chemical additives to make fracking fluids, injecting the chemical fluids underground, collecting the wastewater that flows out of fracking wells after injections, and storing the used wastewater.’
I did not see what you translated as: ‘ A new report from the EPA claims that SOME fracking-related activities (not fracking) MAY cause SOME contamination in SOME circumstances. ‘

      • Those are fracking-related activities. Almost all contamination reported has come from surface spills. Not hydraulic fracturing.

          • It’s responsive to the anti-fracking arguments being made:

“North Carolinians don’t want fracking; we want safe, clean water.”

Of course it is. That should be regulated better. You pollute it, you clean it up right here, right now. Don’t leave it in holding ponds, or transport it somewhere to inject into the ground.
