Letter writer: Fear doesn’t help young men

Graphic by Lori Deaton

If threats to contraception and abortion access in Western North Carolina cause women to fear sex, and a community in which women fear sex is extremely unpleasant for young men, then why aren’t young men up in arms in defense of contraception and abortion access?

My theory is that both sides of the debate have sought to define men as having some interest in keeping women barefoot and pregnant, but I very much doubt this is the case. Some young men pull Halloween pranks, but very few would intentionally produce fears so serious or chronic. The reproductive rights movement is being intentionally divided and conquered by gender.

“extremely unpleasant for young men” — oh no, no, no. There cannot be any unpleasantness in Buncombe County. Certainly not, and I’m sure there is an ordinance against it. Plus look what young men in coffee shops will resort to if they feel “unpleasant”.

(Notice the letter writer doesn’t mention that ladies might feel “unpleasant” if they can’t rock n roll on occasion….hhmm)

Hilarious. This letter deserves some kind of prize. Hey, Mtn X — you should have a Best of Letters to the Editor Category for your annual rankings edition.

No, threats to contraception and abortion access aren’t causing women to fear sex — radical feminism and religious extremism is causing women to fear sex.

So after reading the original letter a few times just to be sure of its meaning, I’m not sure I agree with it, as I really don’t see any logic behind it.

    ApePeeD’s response I agree with.

    Males fearing sex? Riiiiiight.

As much as the God Squad types (real ‘Sharia law’ in our own back yards mind you) try to scare/guilt/shame us over doing something we are literally hard wired for (pun intended)?

I don’t think Nature makes males between the ages of puberty and death who are actually afraid of it.
As a matter of fact I’ve read the average male thinks about it once every 4 minutes, by my question is how do they wait that long?

I used to find Dittmore and Bro’ Christopher entertaining at the City Council about 10 years ago, but their acts are not aging very gracefully.
