Raise a glass of Kool-Aid for our current City Council

Congratulations are due to Asheville’s liberal socialist progressives for their success in eliminating all meaningful diversity of thought from our City Council. Comfort is certainly preferable to the distress of exposure to multiple angles of view. Simplicity and a gentle buzz are assured by our city’s commitment to seven flavors of the same Kool-Aid.

Though politicians like to be defined by their words, image and promises, actions are the only authentic measuring instrument. A review of political actions and voting records of our current Council reveals seven liberals and, inconveniently for those who preach diversity and inclusion, no one remotely operating as a moderate or conservative. (Sorry, guys: An occasional stance in support of morality, financial realism and commerce speaks to impulse or political opportunism, not principle.) It's where you live, not where you visit, that determines your home base.

Going forward, those few liberal-minded Asheville souls running off conscience instead of habit might ponder their political mascot status. The majority of us — pretend conservatives as surely as autopilot liberals — remain pawns to crony capitalism, or a bird of the same feather, crony socialism. Culture vultures differ in color, not agenda.

Quietly awaiting our attention rests an honest free-market system dedicated to liberty, opportunity and responsibility — the model of governance envisioned by our Founding Fathers. Unlike today’s crop of please-and-appease politicians, they understood we do not uplift our fellow man by making him more dependent on the least dependable thing in the universe — politicians. We are busily abandoning our success equation to our own peril — one emotion, habit, vote and pretender at a time.

Did Mr. Mumpower post some homework from his rhetoric class? He should be especially proud of his facility in writing an entire essay without resorting to a single fact or example. Without even a factoid to show this was something other than bad tempered drool from an out-of-power malcontent, reading this was a total waste of time. I can only conclude that Carl believes everyone but him is unprincipled, inconsistent, and probably out to get him. So sad.

It seems Mr. Mumpower fails to see the irony in his pronouncement that “…actions are the only authentic measuring instrument.”

Now what can one conclude from his own actions since he was kicked out of office? How about his grandstanding antics with his sidekick, the failed Bumcombe Co. GOP head (also kicked out), Chad Nesbitt? We all recall Boobygate. If such actions are the only authentic measuring stick, then it is clear Mr. Mumpower just doesn’t measure up.

Will the man never stop sniveling?

Carl, you are pointing out the obvious to anyone who has an ounce of patriotism left in their bloodstream. As you and I know, Leftists don’t really understand the God-given freedoms and responsibilities our nation is based upon. The closed-minded fundamentalist liberals of fishbowl-aren’t-we-all–sooo-smart–Asheville will never get it. Since they can’t intelligently counter what you’ve supported here or debate the merits(it’s after all what our nation was built upon)–Individual Freedom, Liberty, a free market and abiding by the US Constitution– all they have left is childish, intolerant, patronizing ridicule. You are throwing pearls before swine.

And yes Virginia, there are ‘fundamentalist liberals’–as in–“I’m right because I’m an enlightened leftist, and everyone who disagrees with me is an idiot and beneath contempt.” The writers here prove my point.

      1. Patriotism is not exclusive to conservatives.

      2. Our freedoms are the result of men; the Bill of Rights did not fall from the skies, but were hammered out by men.

3.Everyone reading Mumpower’s one-note complaint “gets it.” He is apparently too immature to accept the fact that voters did not choose him, so instead of simply accepting it like an adult, he hurls insults that conservatives weren’t given some kind of affirmative action quota to fill by the godless progressives that booted him out.

      4. He has a few supporters that constitute the Carl Mumpower Amen Corner.

      It’s really quite simple.

Mr. Mumpower is complaining about losing elections, basically. Most people voted for a Council he doesn’t like, and it’s possible that Council will get up to things he doesn’t like. The actions of Council are transitory, however, and Mr. Mumpower and his friends could win an election to make change, or squabble for some sort of affirmative action program, I suppose.

Here’s the thing, though: Mr. Mumpower’s party has reached into a 200-year-old county and altered the way it elects its representatives, and is currently working very hard to expropriate assets that are bought and paid for by this City’s tax base. Mr. Mumpower and his party have absolutely no right to talk about small government, liberty, or, for that matter, democracy.

Which brings us back to the central fact: Mr. Mumpower doesn’t like elections.

Carl’s magic show always features neatly packaged lambasts of a neatly collaborative conspiracy of evil doers who all fail in strangely interrelated ways to see, think and act to overcome several peculiar sets of evils that apparently deny the only peculiar style of humanity that Carl has set forth as righteous and ordained and the necessary fodder of the only peculiar American dream that should should be allowed to make anyone happy.

    Koolaid indeed!

Meanwhile ernst (and duly elected) souls strive w/ real life dramas such as safeguarding and improving public infrastructure… incentivizing investment in job producing entrepreneurships… balancing budgets… all sound doctrine that Carl fails to report as he promotes a fantasy world that obviously sets him uniquely apart from all the rest of us and secures his uniquely peculiar way of thinking about and relating to the community he lives in.

Nobody in our are does a better job of pointing the sanctimonious bony finger than Dr. Mumps. I’m suspecting he feels real special.

How great is the ego of a man who won’t go six weeks without attempting to gain the attention of MX or WLOS? The truth is Mr. Mumpower, you need our liberal city. Without it, you would have no raison d’etre. But as evidenced by our comments, we need you too. We need a name and a face, to put next to words like “egotist”, “narcissist”, and “close-minded neocon”
