Give me Weird!

I must join the recent letter writer who lamented your inclusion of “Asheville Disclaimer” at the expense of “News of the Weird” [“Where's My Dessert,” May 9 Xpress].

Almost all of the Mountain Xpress is intended for the local audience, so I would hope that some judgment of quality also comes into play. I may be in the minority of your readers, but I simply don't find “Asheville Disclaimer” to be skillful satire or even basically amusing, let alone truly funny. The May 23 purported story from Susan Reinhardt was, frankly, puerile in concept and tasteless in execution. Give me some international weirdness any day.

GIVE ME A BREAK!! The “Asheville Disclaimer”, “puerile”–duh!? Of course it is. Sorry it isn’t high-brow, most comedy isn’t, and comedy that is high-brow, isn’t funny. Read the “New Yorker” if you’re into that crap. I have read, and laughed out loud at the “Disclaimer”. I loved it when it was an entire paper, and I loved the fact that MX picked it up. “News of the Weird’ is, at times, amusing, but overall formulaic, repetitive, and often times a direct re-print of past stories. I’m glad you’re not the Comedy Police, because the MX would be a whole lot less entertaining. I’ve read the criticisms over the past couple of weeks about the “Disclaimer”, and, in my professional opinion, you guys need to get over yourselves and laugh!
