Marriage is between one (male) and one (woman)

I'm surprised by the recent mountainx.com article in reference to mayors and commissioners opposing the marriage amendment for the sake of employment recruitment and the economic sustainability of their cities [http://avl.mx/56].

It's a shame that some politicians will accept any lifestyle choices without any moral principles. The institution of marriage is between one (male) and one (woman).

“The institution of marriage is between one (male) and one (woman).”

That depends on what state, what country and what century you live in.

    Dear Mr. Ogden:

The first time that a priest sexually molested a child, the religious community lost all moral authority and right to an opinion in the matter of gay marriage. With all due respect, sir, mind your own business.

In my opinion, anyone that does not support gay marriage and cites “moral principles” is a bigot. So-called “moral principles” have been used to justify a lot of evil in the past- including slavery, racism, sexism, fascism, bigotry, religious intolerance, and genocide.

I don’t get the whole push to cite the Bible as a legal document. I thought separation of church and state was one of the most important principles of the foundation of the United States. If I hear one more yokel cry for their representative to put their God into legislation I’m gonna puke. All you teabaggers want small government, how about we get the government out of marriage and lifestyle choices.

Did someone have something meaningful to say about love and the union between two people?
Oh, it was just the limited and biased views of Mr Keith Ogden.
Merely a squeak, drowned out by that great noise of common sense, we happen to find in our bubble, our beloved cesspool of sin.
Carry on Mr. Ogden. Only a few more generations before your kind will disappear.
ah … evolution is a wonderful thing n’est-ce pas?

  6. 1. A contract, any contract, even a marriage contract, is a peaceable, voluntary agreement between any number of free individual adults. It is the government’s proper role to respect the right to contract and protect that right and all other individual rights. For the government to define marriage is a violation of rights. Furthermore, it is repugnant to American liberty and wholly improper to impose one’s own peculiar religious views on all others by force of law.

  7. If people were allowed and encouraged to be themselves we would have natural population control. Many marry and have children because that is what is expected. Only to live their lives out of a closet, destroying the family when their “indiscretions” are exposed.

The pedophilia covered up by some Religious Institutions have contributed to the “Sick Puppies” in this World.

The Bible does not say that the world will know who the true disciples of Jesus Christ are by their arrogant and moralist condemnation of the world… but by their great love for another, their quiet hard-working respectable example, and by their care for the poor and marginalized. Why is it that this almost never true of the Church in the united states? It is nearly always the other way around it seems… As a Christian this depresses me.

People need to re read their bibles.. Jesus hung out with sinners and prostitutes and the homless. He cast the money makers out of the temple and he never judged anyone he was a rebel and visionary and gave his life so that everyone else could have a hope for a place of peace . Modern religion has twisted and perverted what was meant to be an ideal of forgiveness and tolerance, but now so much hate and bigotry is perpetrated in the name of Jesus, which and maybe i am wrong but from what i have gathered from reading the new testament, is not at all how Jesus would have handled things. so before you start casting stones and damning people to hell take a look in the mirror and re read the bible and ask yourself if that’s really what Jesus would have done

I’d say the real bigots here are the ones who can’t tolerate a different point of view than their own. They have to try to insult and demean Mr. Ogden and his religion for simply stating his opinion. And BTW, if his ‘opinion’ hadn’t been practiced for thousands of years–none of us would be here today. Bet you wouldn’t insult Muslims and Mohammed in this way, due to your fear and stifling political correctness–a polite term for thought and speech censorship. Liberal writers to Mtn Xpress generally aren’t tolerant or accepting unless one agrees with them–much like radical Muslims.

It’s amazing to me how many non-Christians we have in Asheville who are scholarly experts on Christianity and the teachings of Jesus. Now I find that Jesus Christ was a supporter of gay marriage. Who knew?
