As the elections draw near and the conversation has been about partisan determination, I am musing on this idea: Does it all come down to the fact we are following an elephant or a jackass?
Is this, indeed, the metaphor? Are we only an experiment in crowd control? Is the entire political system, (not just here in Asheville, but also in the country) merely used as a steam valve to allow some illusionary sense of dissent and interactivity? In reality, decisions are made not by using my voice or your voice, but rather following not only the status quo but that which feeds the god of greed of the few “chosen” white men.
Are we the prime examples of smoke and mirrors? If only the complacent would not be so complicit in their apathy, we might indeed find ways to let the people have a voice! How did it ever happen that politicos are “supposed” speakers for each individual, thereby creating a veil of illicit, deep-rooted deceit. When do we, the people, finally say no?

Its true, Left vs. Right is a false paradigm to keep us distracted and divided. Ever notice how politicians make the same promises every year but never follow through? Issues such as abortion, the war, the nebulous “family values”, etc. will be used as wedge issues until the end of time. They want us to argue about that so we don’t notice they’ve taken our rights away until its too late. United We Stand, Divided We Fall: Its more than just a catchy bumper sticker. Its a truth we all need to wake up to. Its time folks started focusing on what we have in common instead of that which divides us. And what we have in common is a very serious threat to our freedom.
