Yes, Kristin MacCleod: It is safe for your dog to drink from Kenilworth Lake [“Dead Fountain: What Have We Done to Wild Asheville,” Commentary, April 9].
Those of us who are native or have been here a while know there are no natural lakes in North Carolina except, perhaps, Alligator Lake along the coast. (I wish I were joking.)
For those who can imagine or recall, Beaux Catcher Mountain used (note the use of the past tense) to connect to the Blue Ridge (before the eight-lane devastation you conveniently call I-240), and therefore we could theoretically sympathize with a bear that got lost (especially so long as we didn’t actually see it, but only heard about it).
Join the rest in the “real” (such an un-real term; only an American delusion) world and accept that humans are what drive business, grandeur and perception.
Yours truly: a little person who made a little profit from the housing boom.

On Friday in Indiana, Obama talked tough in response to a question: “I get pretty fed up with people questioning my patriotism.” And, he continued, “I am happy to have that debate with them any place, anytime.” He’s happy to have fantasy debates with unnamed people who are allegedly challenging his patriotism. But he’s not willing to have a real debate with the real person he’s competing against for the nomination.
Saleanna, you are a plagiarist. Your post is a William Kristol quote taken from this morning’s New York Times Opinion page. Shame on you, you lil’ Clinton trickster :)
