I am a Christian, an advocate of women’s rights and a believer in the responsibility of our media to deliver the truth.
With this being said, I would like to encourage the media to give the public honest, relevant information about Republican VP pick, Sarah Palin. I researched assertions she made during her speech at the RNC and was appalled to discover that key points she made were downright false. For instance, she told America that Barack Obama has not passed one relevant piece of legislation while in the Senate. In truth, he passed a monumental ethics-reform bill with Republican co-authors. She also touted her opposition to the Bridge to Nowhere (“I said thanks, but no thanks”), yet she was loudly in favor of it in 2006.
I agree with Sen. McCain’s camp and with Sen. Obama when they say that the family should be off-limits. I do disagree, however, with the McCain camp’s charge that the media is “bullying” Palin by questioning and exposing her record. Isn’t that part of the vetting process? As Americans, we have a right to know the record and beliefs of those who wish to be sworn into office.
This is my call to the media: Deliver the facts, and don’t let up.

By the way, Obama also co-authored and successfully passed one of the most important pieces of transparency legislation in US history. It is called the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act. It created a database of Federal spending on an internet database that is publicly available.
Lugar-Obama and Coburn-Obama are two of the most important pieces of legislation in recent years, and they also demonstrate Obama’s ability to effectively work on bipartisan legislation.
On women’s issues ranging from equal pay, to domestic abuse aid, to reproductive freedom, to sex education to prevent disease (which girls are particularly threatened by) Sarah Palin’s record is abysmal.
