How about some real change?

The Obama administration has decided to stay the course of increasing the federal debt by yet another $787 billion in passing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which merely perpetuates and compounds our economic crisis. There is apparently little to no difference between the lack of economic leadership of the Bush and Obama administrations. Rather than continuing on the road to American economic destruction, how about some real change?

As part of this stimulus plan, this more-of-the-same “new” administration also continues the ongoing routine of unconstitutional (illegal) actions. David Walker, former U.S. comptroller general, stated during the post-debut screening-panel discussion of the movie IOUSA that the federal budget would be cut by 66 percent if all nonconstitutional federal-government expenditures were cut.

So why not at least start by cutting excessive and illegal federal spending, rather than illegally dipping further into our tax dollars and the economy of future generations while simultaneously supporting private and corporate interests?

Government’s continued actions represent a total lack of regard for government accountability and rule of law, yet “We the People” seem to be quite content to be governed by such tyrants for decades. Is this perhaps because we have no regard for the rule of law? Without such regard, there can be no liberty.

As government continues practicing lawlessness and the economy continues to worsen, I wonder to what degree proponents of this new administration will continue in their attempts to blame the entire mess solely on the Bush administration and/or capitalism (even though America has arguably never really had a free market, except perhaps the black market), without further investigation into why we have wound up in this current economic state after decades of corruption.

There have already been comments suggesting the Bush administration has screwed up America beyond the point of the Obama administration’s ability to fix it—as if it’s within the government’s responsibility, or capability, to fix anything!

Well, I like most of your premise here, but would like to add that most of this stimulus is put out to the common folk while Bush’s recovery plan has fed the maw of the banks and wall streeters. He has GOT to do something to rally the econ. I have some doubts but hope SOMETHING will work.
I really like the idea of giving lots of dough to alt. energy to turn trillions of $ from mid east oil to American workers. This can only be a winning situation for our country.

It is the government “doing something” that got us into this economic mess. It is time to do nothing and end government interference in the economy.

Here is what Obama is “doing”:

“Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner hailed what he called a ‘remarkably fiscally responsible’ budget that will add almost $4 trillion to the national debt over the next four years…As it stands, Obama’s maiden budget contemplates adding $6.9 trillion to the national debt over the next decade–$3.7 trillion of which will be added during Obama’s first term. Currently, the total national debt is $10.9 trillion.”

“Since Nov. 4, Election Day, the broad Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index is off about 25 percent, and since Jan. 20, when Obama took office, the ‘500’ is down 15 percent.”

“Obama’s populist rhetoric suggests that he’s only going after the super-rich. Yet reportedly half of individuals earning over $250,000 a year are small business owners. During the past 15 years, small businesses have been creating over 90% of net new jobs — altogether, more than 20 million jobs. How smart is it for the heavy hand of government to come down on these employers? Not very — if the goal of these policies is economic recovery and prosperity.”
