Keep them coming!

After reading the article “Flag Fight” [Xpress, Aug. 1], I just felt compelled to write this letter. I wish first of all to congratulate the writer of the piece, David Forbes, for his excellent journalism skills. You are among a very small and elite group of writers who are good enough to claim the title “journalist.” This was balanced and objective writing that gave equal “time” to each side.

And as for the characters he was writing about—their story has renewed my faith in people! Mark and Deborah Kuhn should be awarded medals for their bravery—yes, bravery. Only the brave nowadays stand up and let their voices be heard; the rest of us are hiding behind rhetoric and false patriotism. Here are the true patriots, fighting in the intellectual arena for real freedom!

How equally refreshing to learn about their neighbors, who not only cared what happened to them but also stood up for them. Good for you—I want to live next door to people like you! The Constitution of the United States is what we should cherish—it is there that our freedoms are outlined. Other countries, including my own (the United Kingdom) do not have anything resembling a written constitution that citizens can consult or draw upon for the protection of their civil liberties.

Thank you for this piece. Keep them coming.
