Lack of objectivity in media response to downtown vandalism

I would like to address the local media response to the May 1 vandalism. First off, I would like to point out that there has been a total lack of journalistic objectivity in this case. It sickens me to watch the [Asheville] Citizen-Times on their little witch-hunt for "anarchists," like we did not know Asheville was full of said crazies.

Look, no one has been convicted of anything at this point, and as we can see from the surveillance footage, the police did not show up while any actual vandalism was taking place. So I strongly urge everyone in town to take a deeeep breath and calm the hell down. We need to remember that this is a liberal town, not Salem, and these are college kids not evil witches.

Plus, according to the Citizen-Times, the damage was only $18,000 worth, how does the APD justify giving 11 people felonies for that small amount of damage? Not that I want my car destroyed, but seriously, they want $65,000 bail for each person, that just does not add up.

  1. LOKEL

Only $18,000 …. the APD did not “give” them felonies, the DA added the felony charges on top of the misdemeanor charges the arrested already faced.

If, as you purport, these folks have been “rounded up” wrongly by the LEO – explain if you will the FACT that they were all running, all dressed in black, and all wearing or possessing bandannas that several witnesses who called 911 described – coincidence?

These vandals are not kids- they are hoodlums, some of whom traveled hundreds of miles to visit their spite on the people of Asheville. Only $18,000.00? Then surely you wouldn’t mind paying it so that the innocent victims of this crime don’t have to suffer the consequences of these “kids” right to have fun! And anarchists? Nah, the acceptance of their right to public defenders belies this position! These are just punks who deserve what due justice in this state metes out.

  3. I predict that not one of these 11 men and/or women will be convicted, or at least not convicted of anything amounting to a felony. The crime was minor, the victims few, and the stupid-ass comments from good, decent citizens were a plenty. Well said, Wednesday!

Is that true? I mean, you put it in ALL CAPS and everything, but since none of them have said attire on int heir mug shots, and nothing of the sort has been reported, I’m a bit dubious.

The crime was minor, the victims few

Yeah, who cares if they only smashed a few people’s property. It was just a ‘little bit’.

    Well said, Wednesday!

“Wednesday” has made no reasonable statements whatsoever. If he wants context, or ‘reasons’, why doesnt HE tell us what the reasons for this moronic destruction were? Since he seems privy to said knowledge.
