Let the holidays mean something

I just wanted to pass along a little story to those out there about the intent of this coming holiday season. Last night a 13-year-old boy went trick-or-treating in a popular West Asheville neighborhood full of lights and festivities. He was excited about his costume and for the thrill of the night. That was, until a grumpy homeowner took it upon himself to determine that this boy was too old to be trick-or-treating. Now, we can debate the validity of this argument another time, but I wanted to say that this man has no idea that this boy has been through a lot.

This was just his second opportunity to celebrate Halloween because of a theocratic and draconian father who, thankfully, is no longer around. We are now trying to put the fun back in family holidays and take advantage of the youth this child still has left.

The humbug homeowner might have a valid argument for his comments, but this night and the coming holidays are about fun and fellowship. If you can’t blur the lines a little and just enjoy this giving season, then please don’t put a wet blanket on it for others. Happy holidays.

“Did he have a costume? That’s usually our criteria.”

In the comment, the writer stated “He was excited about his costume…”

It seems that the answer is ‘yes’, he had a costume.
