Low blow from a “leader”

I was personally appalled by Carl Mumpower’s letter to the editor [“All This, and Council too?”, Sept. 26]. While it certainly must not be fun to be the target of satirists and cartoonists, [that] does not make it acceptable to lash out at his fellow Council members as a response. After all, each has been so attacked by the Disclaimer and Molton in the past, and as long as we have the First Amendment, this will continue.

However, for Mumpower to refer to his co-Council members as closet socialists is beyond the pale. Mumpower, his fellow Council members and the mayor were elected to run the city as they each see fit, not to slander each other in crass attempts to pander to their base while eyeing higher offices.

If that is how Mumpower plans to operate in Washington, we are indeed left with a Hobson’s choice: leaving him on City Council where he is involved in degrading his fellow city leaders, or getting him out of here by moving him to Washington.

    Could you see Mumpower playing national cop? What is the FBI, etc.. going to think when they show up some stakeout and he’s already hiding out there with the notebook and camera.

    To be eaten up with that much ambition and energy and have it be wasted on hatred for the poor, minorities, hippies, homeless… It’s a sin.
