Not a mandate in my book

I would suggest that [Bill] Stanley not take the apathetic and pathetic 38-percent voter turnout in the recent primary as some sort of mandate for his continued position as county commissioner [“Buncombe Commish: The Democrats,” May 14].

“Doing it good,” as you said? I don’t think so. More likely, voters who don’t participate don’t care or don’t have any idea what Mr. Stanley, Chairman Nathan (Conflict-of-Interest) Ramsey and the rest of the commissioners—along with the aid of City Council—have done, are doing and plan to do: in effect, selling off the county and Asheville to the highest bidders.

No, Mr. Stanley, some of us see, but apparently not enough [of us] to send you and people like you—who would destroy the beauty of this gift of the mountains—back to your former occupations.

The legacy of your time on the Board of Commissioners will be that you took something really special and beautiful and turned it into something crass and commercial. “Doing it good.” Well, I guess you could say that if your vision is similar to, say, Donald Trump’s; then, yes … you and the rest of the commission and City Council are doing a really, really “good” job.
