Poking Israel in the ribs

In response to “Will We Reap What Israel Sows?” [Letters, Jan. 21]: First, for those that believe in one true God, he gave that land to Israel. So, the land belongs to them. Who is to deny what God gives? Though Israel has turned its back on God and denied his Son, he does not turn his back on his covenant with his people.

For those who do not believe in God, history is full of nation conquering nation, and Israel was the first to conquer that area and build a strong nation. They built Jerusalem. They also have been conquered many times and have had Jerusalem all but destroyed many times. They have suffered at the hands of others for thousands of years. All they want is to live in peace within the borders of the land that they established originally. Do they say that they want to destroy all Arab/Muslim nations and kill all Muslims? Do they say to let the blood flow in the streets? I believe that you will find that it is just the opposite. It is the Muslim nations that wish to have Israeli blood run in the streets till every Israeli is dead and Israel destroyed.

Do the Palestinians have a right to exist and live in peace? Yes. Yet the radical factions have continued to threaten Israel and have provoked them to the point of retaliation—just as if someone stood next to you and continually poked you hard in the ribs, no matter how many times you asked them to stop. At some point, you will retaliate to make them stop.

The radical Muslim factions are just as much at fault for their people’s sufferings. Israel has as much right to live in peace as anyone else. They do not seek to conquer the Middle East. Just as much as there should be compassion for those who suffer because of the Israelis’ actions, there should be compassion for those Israelis who suffer because of those who wish to destroy them.

If someone kept me and my family chained to a post and starved us for months and years on end, I might want to poke him hard in the ribs too.

If Hamas and Hezbollah and Iran and Syria and others would stop cheering the destruction of Israel, the Palestinians would not be in this position. Things would have been much better a long time ago. It is the Islamic radicals causing the real problems. Stop them and there will be peace. Good luck.

Right. Those comments by those radicals must be very hurtful. Of course Israel should respond by murdering and displacing an already long-oppressed people.

“Those comments by those radicals must be very hurtful.”

Comments?! Israel’s enemies have done a tad more than ‘comment’. So quick to forget.
