Purchase on a whim

I recently walked by Pet Luv in the Asheville Mall, one of the two places in our area where you can buy a life, no questions asked (aside from the countless backyard breeders, of course). Three kids were jumping around their mother begging for some little fluff-ball of a puppy, and I walked away, disgusted. I went into a nearby store and walked around for a few minutes, only to come across the same family in the next aisle. The little girl, maybe 12, was jumping around her mom, begging for a pair of shoes in the exact same way as for the puppy.

Sadly, those shoes and that puppy could be bought with the same lack of care and commitment. What does that say about our value of life? What does that tell our kids? Happily, I guess the family didn’t buy the puppy, and its spot won’t be filled with another frightened soul bred for purchase on a whim. Or maybe they just put it on layaway.

My name also is Jacque Teepl…I spell Jacque (Jackie)dufferently..that is all…but I also share the same passion as the girl that wrote this, as I am an animal lover..it is my passion…my reason…I try and have tried all my remembering life to stop the breeding pets for profit…and then there is Paris Hilton on TV going to these stores buying puppies and making it look okay…she is doing a great diservice to these animals she clamins she so dearly loves.
