Republicans must earn right to be heard

The Republicans say that they want to be heard, but they haven't earned that right. They never listened to the Democrats when they were in power, and not one of them has ever apologized for the mess they left this country in. To the party of "No," I say, forget it until you have earned the right to be heard.

Let’s be fair, Lloyd. Half of the Democrats in Congress are just as guilty as the Republicans, and went along with nearly all of Bush’s plans as soon as he said ‘terrorist’. We should give them equal blame as to the direction of this country. The ‘left/right’ game is a distraction.

Earn the right to be heard? By virtue of being elected, they have earned that right since they are representing the voters who elected them. What many people, libs and conservatives, cannot understand is that there are basically very strong philosophical differences that can never be bridged. Certainly there is some middle ground in some areas, but liberals see it as the responsibility of government to do everything possible to “help.” Conservatives see (mostly) government as the problem and dislike that government programs enable a lack of personal responsibility. Of course this is an oversimplification, but the basic philosophical differences are so great that true libs and true conservatives will never meet on significant issues. And as far as the party of “No,” it appears from polls that the republicans are saying “NO” on behalf of the majority of the the people of this country, so to say they have no right to be heard is simply the sort of arrogant attitude that will be costing the democrats well-deserved big time losses in the 2010 elections.

I don’t think many Republicans care if you hear them or not, Lloyd. You are not going to vote for them in any event.

This whole premise is false. W included the Democrats in all kinds of legislation. No Child Left Benind, Part D Medicare, the initial Bail Out Push. That’s what upset his base so much. The cooperation resulted in a huge number of big bills passed.

The Democrats have/had the super majority and barely got things thru. They tried to go it alone too much and that created rifts in their own party. They will pay the price for their lack of cooperation in the next few elections.

This letter is revisionism at its best.

W bought the Dem’s complicity in the Wars he wanted to fight. He let them have what they wanted legislatively in turn for their cooperation/votes for the war effort.

They played like they were against the wars and W’s spending spree, til it was time to vote for their money.

    Lloyd Kay,

Are you serious? Is this a joke commentary?
The Democrats ruled the house and and most of the senate when Bush was in office.

You are the typical Smith, Bothwell, liberal.
You are filled with hate. People like you don’t beleive in free speach or the willingness to listen to another opinion.

    Lighten up!

“The Democrats ruled the house and and most of the senate when Bush was in office”

This is not correct. The Republican Party kept control of both the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate until 2007. The Democratic Party wrested control of both houses of the 110th Congress, although by a very slim margin, especially in the Senate. The composition of the 110th Congress (2007 – ) is as follows:

    Senate: 49 D, 49 R House: 233 D, 198 R

If you’re going to be heard, be accurate! (and use spellcheck)

Wrong>>>they folded to him for fear of being labeled “weak on terror” The dems have no gonads.

Jwtjr: Part D medicare, the initial bailout, and No Child Left Behind are all legislative turds. I can’t believe anyone ever supported any of those programs.

Chad: The dems controlled the congress for two out of Bush’s eight years. Bush and the Republicans passed whatever they wanted, and when the Dems sent ANYTHING to the white house, he vetoed it or made it null and void with ridiculous signing statements.

To make the argument that there existed any substantive bipartisanship in the last thirty years is absurd. Both parties force their agendas down the public’s throats with whatever sleazy tactic they can employ. And, there will be no bipartisanship because the Republicans have no knew ideas. Tort reform, interstate health care, and health saving accounts will only insure an additional 3 million (C.B.O.). Leaving the health-care issue unresolved. It’s the same ideas that Bush championed years ago. I say, if you want to be heard, say something new, helpful, and intelligent.

Also, I am liberal, I know tons of liberals, and they are all happy. I don’t get why you and Hannity always refer to the “angry-left” and how unhappy liberals are. Whenever I see someone screaming or freaking out it’s a conservative or a tea-bagger. I spend my day laughing and taking it easy.
