Styro-free

Since becoming parents, dinner-and-movie more often is take-out and a DVD. Until recently this caused a dilemma. My favorite food came packaged in petroleum-based Styrofoam. All that has changed.

Heiwa Shokudo has eliminated the bulky, nonrecyclable, nonbiodegradable material, opting to package their superb Tuna Spicy Garlic and other menu items in a sturdy pressed-paper product. Ask your favorite take-out if they can seek an alternative to Styrofoam, or go to Heiwa.

Editor’s note: The writer is not associated with Heiwa Shokudo. And some other area restaurants have also switched to paper-based carryout packaging.

  1. well stay there and eat it in the restaurant while it’s still nice and hot — then NO packaging is needed.

or, if you eat the just the packaging look how much food would be saved and, in too many of Asheville’s restaurants, you’d not find a lack of flavor.

Great, now you will tick off the fried green tree huggers for using paper made in an evil paper mill. Do the true environmental thing and use your hands.

  3. Hopefully

Its not all black and white Dr. Knowitall, sometimes its a matter of lesser evils. Paper does degrade in a shorter amount of time.

l&h;, I am all for the use of paper. I have vested interest in the commodity so by all means use as much of it as you can.

Come to think of it, I have interests in poly plastics as well so by all means use as much styro as you desire ….. and hand soap too if you just want to use your hands as long as it’s P&G;.
