Surveillance cameras help keep an eye on our town

Downtown Asheville is a great place to visit and enjoy. We need to keep it safe. The latest visit from the anarchists shows that the police cannot be everywhere. We need some video cameras on the key trouble areas and key tourist areas to deter and capture criminals. Let's give the police, and ourselves, an edge over the bad guys!

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. Thomas Jefferson.

Surveillance cameras did nothing to prevent the NYC good Samaritan from dying after saving a woman from armed robbery. We the people must be vigilant, and protect our communities. We must stop looking to the government to “save us”.

Do you really want to live in a surveillance state?

  2. Kamana: Yes, he does really want to live in a surveillance state. He is just that sort of person, I am sure.

I would prefer surveillance cameras on the police being available as a public record.

  4. Will the cameras be able to apprehend criminals? Will police be able to teleport to the cameras?
Will I be able to tap into the surveillance cameras? and then if I see a criminal teleport to the camera and deliver vigilante justice.

if not then how will we be safer?

I think Mr. King may have confused Robocop with reality.

Most municipalities have cctv in use. Look around, Asheville does. I would like to have access to the feed. After all, We’re paying for it. There’s probably one aimed right at firestorm.

I was once involved in a car accident right in front of the BB&T building at the intersection of Patton and Broadway (I was a passenger) … however, their were (and still are) several cameras in that area … long story short, the driver of the car I was in was told afterwards that those cameras “weren’t in service” at the time of the wreck …

This was about 5 years ago now, so maybe they are in service now, but who knows.

Maybe Xpress should do a few investigative reports and reveal such things as this and others snafoos in town:

    – why there are/is no stage covering or bathrooms in a 17 million dollar park (not to mention no stage access given by the City)?

    – how much water leaks (unaccounted for) from the City of Ashevilles’ water system on a daily basis (I’ve heard it’s a lot!).
