When you’re considering who’s the best candidate for county commissioner, think about Cecil Bothwell and remember James Stewart in the old movie Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Mr. Smith only knew how to talk straight and tell the truth. After many years of being an excellent investigative reporter who covered commissioners’ meetings, Cecil knows the good, the bad and the ugly about how that system works, and he only knows how to tell the truth about it.
Many of us are bone-tired of listening to politicians do nothing but verbal dancing when answering a simple question. When they stop talking, we have no idea what their position is. When Cecil answers, you know exactly where he stands. Do you remember those clear mountain streams we used to have before they turned brown from storm-water runoff? His answers sound like that.
Imagine, a commissioner who has earned his living investigating every nook and cranny of Buncombe County issues, and whose professionally honed skills include listening carefully. One who comes to conclusions using reason and verifiable evidence and then simply tells it like it is—with no dancing. We need people like that making the decisions that affect us now and will affect our children and their children.
I urge you to vote for Bothwell for Buncombe County commissioner on May 6.

Bothwell is a zoner who would destroy affordable housing supplies and lengthen commutes to Old Fort. Yelton and Carol will restore market affordability to Buncombe housing.
I gotta agree with Alan … being in favor of zoning out here in the county does not enhance your electability this year. Many of us are feeling really betrayed by the current commissioners. Zoning is the bellwether issue this time around.
No. What more needs to be said?
