Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.

Before you comment

The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Thank you for being part of this effort to promote respectful discussion.

Really? Considering the greedy local filth called the County Commission and City Council are raiding the funds of property owners to give Avadim 900 grand in “incentives”, you have one hell of a non argument here. Stop taking the money of residents to fund the 1 percenters.

“Stop taking the money of residents to fund the 1 percenters.”

Wow! Never would have expected Lulz to join in on the “class warfare” of Occupy!

City Council has no part in this. Want to retract that bit of your rant?

          • Lulz

LOL, they have a big hand in the RAD and a certain brewer down there that has been given lots of “incentives”. By no means is council or city government clean. Why hell, Rivertop is out there washing sidewalks in the rain lulz.

So you’re not going to retract a lie? Got it.

I had been providing cheap worker housing but the CITY stopped perfectly happy workers from living in their choice of housing.

One day Asheville residents will discover the effect of strict zoning and low supply/high demand on housing prices. One day. But it won’t be anytime soon, not when they can try to petition City Council for a legislative or executive solution to a “market problem.”

Somebody make this city take Econ 101.

Someone give dyfed a map and show him where the new Avadim facility is located. (Hint: it’s not in Asheville.)

Rents rise when taxes increase, but most tenants are not smart enough to realize that …
