Each week, Xpress highlights notable WNC crowdsourcing initiatives that may inspire readers to become new faces in the crowd. This week features a fundraiser for Asheville Butoh Festival’s four-day event plus an eco-friendly studying aid designed by UNCA students.
Yumiko Yoshioka performs at BeBe Theatre on Thursday and Friday, April 7-8, at 7:30 p.m. Plus, she’ll lead two workshops there on Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10, from 1-5 p.m., before local performers display Asheville’s take on butoh.
A woman stands in a ragged white kimono. Her dark hair is vehemently disheveled. Her mouth hangs open in her painted-white face. This is not your mama’s modern dance. This weekend offers dance, outdoor festivals, live music and theater. As always, Xpress highlights the best in low-cost weekend entertainment.
