Molton’s weekly weirdness
Although Western North Carolina’s craft brewing industry has grown exponentially in the last decade, DWI arrests have decreased significantly.
Asheville now boasts the highest number of breweries per capita of any U.S. city. But given the city’s failure to extend mass transit hours even as the number of watering holes increases, some locals fear that Asheville in not only Beer City, it’s DWI City.
“If we want a thriving tourism economy and a “craft brew mecca” kind of culture, then we need law enforcement officers trained to deal with this new direction our fine city is taking.”
Officers in the traffic safety unit of the APD do more than write tickets. Thanks to their efforts, DWI rates in the city are down significantly this year.
