President Clinton visits Asheville ***UPDATED WITH VIDEO OF THE SPEECH***


Thousands of people welcomed former President Bill Clinton to Asheville today. He was here stumping for Congressman Heath Shuler, in a hotly contested race with Republican Jeff Miller for the 11th District Congressional seat. The Rally took place at City County Plaza in downtown Asheville, and while the program was scheduled to start at 12:30pm,  the former president — true to form — was running late and finally took the stage at 1:45. Buncombe GOP chairman Chad Nesbitt questioned by Secret Service over satirical Twitter account


Will the real Chad Nesbitt please stand up? Buncombe County GOP chairman Chad Nesbitt was reportedly interviewed by the U.S. Secret Service last night ahead of today’s Oct. 21 visit by President Bill Clinton. According to a press release sent out by the local party, the interview was prompted by concerns over statements made via a satirical Twitter handle that bears his name. On the left, is the real Chad Nesbitt. On the right, is an image from the fake Chad Nesbitt’s Twitter account.

Early voting continues through Oct. 30

Beat the rush and vote early in the 2010 election! On Monday, Oct. 18, early voting opens at 14 locations around Buncombe County, from the Board of Elections’ downtown location to points east, west, north and south.

(Really) early voting begins today

Be the first kid on your block to cast a ballot in the 2010 election! Early voting begins today at the Buncombe County Training Center at 199 College Street in Asheville. They’re open from 8am to 6pm today and tomorrow (Thursday and Friday) and they’re closed on Saturday. In addition to the downtown location, other remote locations throughout the county will be open starting October 18 through October 30.

Yesterday afternoon, Sept.15, Patsy Keever was sworn in to represent District 115 in the North Carolina House of Representatives. Gov. Beverly Perdue appointed the Democrat to fill the seat vacated by Rep. Bruce Goforth earlier this summer after Keever beat him in the primary.
