    Xpress has received word that “Women’s Wisdom Circle,” “Women’s Gifting Circle” or similarly-titled groups are operating in Asheville. The groups ask members to give $5,000 in expectation of $40,000 once more members are recruited, and are designated as a pyramid scheme by law enforcement agencies in multiple states.

    The Asheville Police Department issued a release this morning announcing the first charges in the alleged fraud by several employees of the city of Asheville Human Resources Department. These include the director and assistant director of the department, who the city has no announced “are no longer employed.”
