On Saturday, Aug. 11 the the Renaissance Asheville Hotel will host the seventh annual White Fundraiser. The event benefits the local nonprofit Loving Food Resources. Also this week: Summer at the Old Dairy Barn Harvest; The 41st annual Sourwood Festival; Cider and Cheese Pairing; and plenty more.
This year’s fundraising dinner — prepared by Michael Marshall of the Renaissance Hotel with pours from Biltmore Wines — will enable the Literacy Council to secure volunteer tutors for some 350 locals lacking reading, writing and language skills.
Feasting for FEAST fundraiser will help organizers educate more local youths on the wonders of fresh, homegrown veggies. Meanwhile, Hops & Vines is offering a cider making class, and Thirsty Monk, Table and Wicked Weed have planned specialty food and beer events.
Look for apparel from Charles Josef, Angela Kim, McKinney Gough, Anna Gordon, Tricia M. Ellis and the design team at House of Fabrics, among others at Asheville Fashion Week.

The Western North Carolina AIDS Project will display the AIDS Memorial Quilt at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel, 31 Woodfin St. as part of a weeklong tribute to the more than 94,000 individuals who lost their lives to AIDS. Nov. 25 to Dec. 2 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Thanksgiving Day. Admission is free.
