Board of Adjustments approves revised Coggins Farm plan
After nearly eight hours of witness testimony, evidence and cross-examinations, the Buncombe County Board of Adjustment voted 6-1 to approve the proposed development of Coggins Farm in Riceville. During the hearing, the board had the opportunity to hear from neighbors concerned with the possibility of development affecting their own property values, flooding from Bull Creek and the increased traffic the project would create on roads that residents say are already dangerous.
City rolls out new zoning plan for Haywood Road tomorrow night
After months of preparation, city of Asheville staff will present a new “form-based” zoning plan for the Haywood Road corridor at a meeting tomorrow night, Thursday, March 27. The new plan is a very different approach from the city’s previous development rules, and could provide a model for overhauling other neighborhoods’ zoning as well.

Buncombe Commissioners to vote on Moogfest incentives, Bent Creek zoning
After a two week delay, Moogfest funding will be up for a vote at the Buncombe County Commissioner’s March 4 meeting. The music and innovation festival is requesting $90,000 from the county to help produce the event, which will run April 23-27 at venues across Asheville.

The plan calls for a new form of zoning, improved pedestrian infrastructure and keeping the area’s historic feel to make “a neighborhood leader for sustainability in the city.” If successful, other neighborhoods might get similar development overhauls.
