The State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) recently donated a tract that will aid in the development of the Davidson River Trail, a bike- and walkway linking the Brevard community to the Davidson River Campground, the Cradle of Forestry, and Pisgah National Forest. This connection will give area residents a new way to gain access to Pisgah National Forest and visit such environmental wonders as Sliding Rock and many area waterfalls – all by foot or bicycle.

Asheville transit ends bus service on Michigan Avenue due to safety concerns
The Asheville Transit System permanently ended bus service along part of Michigan Avenue in West Asheville on April 15, due to unspecified “safety concerns.” The buses will now use nearby Hanover Street to service residents of the Pisgah View Apartments housing project.

I-26 construction delayed for a year; design center shut out of decision
The North Carolina Department of Transportation on Wednesday announced its decision to delay the construction of the long-awaited I-26 connector project one year — until 2014 — to further study impacts in the area. NCDOT will also include the locally developed Alternative 4b in its studies and try to reduce one of the project’s most controversial features — its impact on the Burton Street neighborhood. However, the Asheville Design Center, who developed 4b, say that NCDOT shut them out of the decision.
