DaFishy Code: Here’s a newsflash that’s bound to thrill: The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has updated its Trout Fishing Maps Book.
Sure, the name is a little uninspired, but the book remains a deal at $12, including maps of WNC’s rivers and streams, all color-coded according to the fishing regulations in effect at each place (including delayed harvest). The maps also show state game lands and state parks and feature information on fishing locations with universal accessibility for handicapped anglers.
The new edition even includes a full-color trout identification page, so you won’t embarrass yourself around the holiday punchbowl by calling that brown a brookie by mistake.
To get one, call (866) 945-3746 or visit the commission’s N.C. WILD Store at www.ncwildlife.org. Cheapskates (we know you’re out there) can download individual maps for free at the same site.
Spokes like us: The Blue Ridge Bicycle Club will hold its first meeting of the new year on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Earthfare, in Asheville’s Westgate Shopping Center.
Bicycle trekker extraordinaire Mark Boyd will give a talk about how to get started with bicycle touring. To get a foretaste, visit Boyd’s Web site (www.cs.unca.edu/~boyd/) and share in his U.S. and European adventures in the saddle.
The group will eat at 6 p.m., and the program will start at 7 p.m.. Annual membership with BRBC costs $25. Visit www.blueridgebicyleclub.org for details.
