City Council needs to do its job and protect the assets of our city!
The Ellington developers look at this project in terms of the return on their investment. Do they live in Asheville? Do they care about Asheville in any way other than monetarily?
I’m not opposed to a return on investment, but please—let’s first take a look at what is best for our historic downtown. We are running out of space—everyone wants a piece.
I’ve heard that City Council will begin a master-plan process in the fall. Seems to me another great reason to wait until our plan is in place. Then we will know the standards for height, footprint, traffic and style of development [that] our citizens desire for our jewel.
The investors aren’t going away. Asheville will be even more valuable as she maintains her uniqueness.
City Council: Your job is to protect our city—not sell us out to some outside group’s investment-crunching plan. Vote no on The Ellington and ask them to come back when we can tell them what their project needs to do to fit into what we know is best for our city.
