Rising to the challenge

Rebecca Bowe has done great work through her recent coverage of the HUB Project initiative [“About that Climate Change business …,” Nov. 14] to develop the outstanding resources that Asheville has for being world players in the global climate-change picture. With the final report just out from the International Panel on Climate Change, the message is clear: Creative visionaries, compassionate business leaders and energy-consuming citizens all must embrace opportunities for change on a grand scale.

Although the time is past for being proactive, we have the resources and the leaders in this area to be able to develop new models. With the great emphasis on developing the database and information technologies through the Climate Alive project, there is an equally great synergy being focused on developing this region as a center for sustainability technologies, including renewable energy. I’m looking forward to seeing how we will all rise to meet this challenge. May it bring out the best in all of us!
