Hit-and-run choices

This letter is to the well-off looking couple driving the green SUV, whose N.C. license-plate number I recorded. I’m the owner of the red Honda Element that you rear-ended coming off I-240 West onto Merrimon Avenue at 2:11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb 2—and that you saw fit to drive past, staring, even though I pulled over and signaled you to please stop.

Are you aware that hit-and-run is against the law? Had you been responsible, decent people who had enough concern for their neighbors to pull over to see if there was damage, I would have told you not to worry about it. Now I’m angry. Would you like to reply with an apology, or shall I go ahead with the police report? We all have a responsibility to be considerate to the people with whom we share our city.

    Marie, stop wasting time and file the report. Your insurance company is going to cause you problems if you do not.

    A friend of mine was recently hit by a car riding his bike on Reems Creek Road. Luckily all he got was bruises. But he said the woman that hit him did not come to a stop until she saw him get up off the side of the road. In other words, if he had been dead, she would have kept driving.

    I was left for dead October 2006 in a hit and run. Now I’m partially paralyzed for life. People have no respect for life of any kind anymore. Even the person who called 911 didn’t stick around…saw me on the shoulder and called in passing. File the report and stop waiting for an apology you’re never going to get.
