Here’s a brief list of local parenting resources. Check the Xpress Community Calendar for a complete rundown, including information on babysitting co-ops, baby-yoga classes, playgroups, Mom’s Morning Out programs, and weekly toddler events sponsored by Asheville Parks & Recreation (www.ashevilleparks.org).

New to town?

Ashevillemamas: www.ashevillemamas.org is an online resource featuring a message board and e-mailed postings. Topics are as broad as parenting itself, including health issues, conscious discipline, single parenting, relocation questions (this is the place to go if you’re new to town) and much more.

The Family Resource Center is located at the Asheville City Schools Preschool (441 Haywood Road). Info: 255-5423.

The Emma Family Resource Center, for families of that neighborhood, is located on the campus of Emma Elementary (37 Brickyard Road). Info: 252-4810.

Going natural?

The Holistic Parenting Forum happens the second Wednesday of the month, 6 to 8 p.m., at Earth Fare in West Asheville. Children are welcome. Info: 230-4850 or shantisunshine@gmail.com.

Homeschooling your kids?

Home-Asheville is an online forum for secular homeschooling families in and around Asheville. Home-Asheville is affiliated with the H.O.M.E. group (Homeschooling Opens Minds Everyday). Info at groups.yahoo.com/group/home-asheville.

Got milk?

The local division of La Leche League, a worldwide group for breastfeeding mothers, meets at the First Congregational Church, 20 Oak St. in downtown Asheville. Leaders are available for breastfeeding support 24 hours a day: 628-4438, 670-1032, 713-3707 or 713-1534.

• 3rd Saturdays, 10 a.m.—Baby group meets.

Need milk?

The Buncombe County Health Center supports the area WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Special Supplemental Nutrition Program. Eligible low-income women who are pregnant or who have newborns to 5-year-olds may receive infant formula, whole milk and food staples. (This includes breastfeeding women.) 35 Woodfin St., 250-5000.
