Are you lonely tonight?: The next meeting of the Pigeon Valley Bassmasters will be held on Monday, June 9, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Canton Library. Nonmembers are encouraged to attend and make friends with their fellow anglers.
Howdy, neighbor: Longtime West Asheville outdoor consignment shop Second Gear has moved across the street to a portion of the Ace Appliance Building at 444 Haywood Road. The new store, reports co-owner Russ Towers, is roughly 50 percent larger than the original location at 415 Haywood Road.
“The store’s layout gives us more floor space to better display more gear as well as providing a backroom area to prepare consigned items for sale,” Towers says. “With the additional space we plan to expand our offering of new gear accessories, guidebooks and maps and will soon offer camping gear for rent.”
Second Gear is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call the shop at 258-0757 or visit its Web site (www.secondgearwnc.com) for details.
Put it on your calendar: To be sure, it’s a bit of a haul, but it’s for a good cause—on Saturday, July 19, the Carolina Climbers Coalition is holding a party at the Triangle Rock Club in Morrisville, with the aim of helping pay off the balance the club owes on its purchase of Laurel Knob.
The all-day celebration will include a raffle, silent auction, beer and barbecue and multimedia extras. If that’s not enough to get you the car, the event will also include a swap meet. Tickets are $25 and will be sold at the Triangle Rock Club the day of the festival. Visit the nonprofit’s Web site (www.carolinaclimbers.org) for the whole story.
