The juxtaposition of President Obama's receiving a Nobel Prize for peace and his decision to continue the war in Afghanistan and send 30,000 more troops there brought to my mind one of Berthold Brecht's searing statements:

The irony of someone getting a Nobel Prize for being elected president seems far more bizarre to me than a man talking about how the military might of the US has indeed had a hand in securing the peace and prosperity of the very people handing out the prize.
Peace is not cheap, and Obama doesn’t take the decision of sending more troops to Afghanistan lightly. if you think he does, you should hear the man out, I think he might surprise you.
