Xpress has learned that Sir Elton John will perform live in concert at the Asheville Civic Center on November 16, 2010 at 8pm. Tickets will go on sale Monday, October 4th at 10am both online and at the Civic Center (see below for details).
The international superstar — who has topped the charts for four decades — will perform his “Greatest Hits Live” concert, featuring many of his number-one hits and classic album tracks from throughout his long career, including “Your Song,” “Daniel,” “Rocket Man,” “Bennie and the Jets” and many more.
Sir Elton is is one of the top-selling solo artists of all time, with more than 250 million records worldwide. He has 35 gold and 25 platinum albums, and 29 consecutive Top 40 hits. He also holds the record for the biggest selling single of all time: “Candle in the Wind ‘97,” which sold 37 million copies. Since his career began in 1969, he has played almost 3,000 concerts worldwide.
Elton John is also well-known for his charity work on behalf of people living with AIDS and HIV. He established the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) to support innovative HIV prevention programs, efforts to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS, and direct care and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Sam Powers, Director of the Asheville Civic Center, said “We are thrilled to host Elton John and his band at the Asheville Civic Center. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Elton perform all his hits and number-ones live on-stage in an intimate setting. This will be an unforgettable day for Asheville’s music fans.”
Elton John’s Band includes Davey Johnstone on guitar and Nigel Olsson on drums — both have been with the multiple Grammy-winning performer since the band’s inception — and Bob Birch on bass, John Mahon on percussion, and Kim Bullard on keyboards. Bernie Taupin has been the band’s lyricist during their classic era and continues in that capacity to this day.

Is he coming in 2010 or 2011? Ticketmaster says this year however the article says 2011.

I was at that concert. It was great. Now, I just have to wait for Elton to coe to Charlotte.
