• If you’re up for braving the cold, the quiet streets of downtown Asheville make it a perfect time to embark on the Asheville Urban Trail tour. • Join a Christmas Day Tea Party with the residents of Aston Park Health Care Center (380 Brevard Rd., Asheville) from 2-4 p.m. Volunteers are invited to partake in holiday treats provided by staff and participate in festive activities. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a card or gift for each resident, but this is not required. Suggested gift items: stuffed animals, music and calendars. • Tressa’s Downtown Jazz & Blues (28 Broadway St., Asheville, 254-7072) holds a Christmas Day show with soul/funk band Free Flow. 8:30 p.m.
• Broadway’s (120 N. Lexington Ave., Asheville, 285-0400) is open. “This place is an institution in the sense that it’s there!” said Rudolph L. May in a recent “interview” with Xpress. Hours, according to Broadway’s Facebook page, are 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.
• The Bier Garden (46 Haywood St., Asheville, 285-0002) is open after 6 p.m. No entertainment, but they’re open.
• The same holds true for Olive or Twist (81 Broadway St., Asheville, 254-0555), whose staff told Xpress they would not be having entertainment but hey, it’s a destination.
• Vincenzo’s (10 N. Market St., Asheville, 254-4698), on the other hand, boasts singer/songwriter Ginny McAfee.
I can’t resist being open in the snow, so Orbit DVD is open until 5pm. The Haywood Road Market is also open today until 4pm.
