Thanks to the tireless efforts of many local standup comics (some of which write for this very paper’s “Asheville Disclaimer”), we now live in a city where you can go see fantastic local, regional and national comedians every single night of the week. But you wouldn’t know it by reading the Mountain Xpress.
I cracked open the Oct. 5 issue and was shocked to see absolutely nothing about Louis CK’s Oct. 7 show at Thomas Wolfe — arguably one of the hottest tickets in town during a jam-packed Friday-night entertainment schedule. It disappoints me that so many people are working so hard to make Asheville a destination for live comedy, and yet the Mountain Xpress does so little to expose it to a wider audience.
Tonight, I have front row tickets to see one of the nation’s absolute best standup comedians (the aforementioned Louis CK), at an incredibly affordable price. If that’s not at least a “Smart Bet,” then I don’t know what is.

Next Tuesday, Oct 25 9pm, Charlotte Street Computers and the Disclaimer present comedian Moshe Kasher at LAB downtown (Back Stage), and that’s going to be a great show. Joe DeRosa performed at LAB last month, and that was a fantastic show and a great room for comedy.
The following Tuesday (Nov 1, 8pm) at The Magnetic Field is Herbie Gill, and the Tuesday after that (Nov 8) is Rory Scovel at The Magnetic Field. The rest of November has a line-up of great shows on Tuesdays at The Magnetic Field (in the River Arts District) as well.
You can find more info at http://www.themagneticfield.com or “Disclaimer Comedy” on Facebook.
And here’s an interview with Moshe Kasher from the A.V. Club
