Vivid Songs: Martha Scanlan first gained national recognition when she won awards at the prestigious Chris Austin songwriting contest at Merlefest. Since then she has continued to receive accolades in the roots music world, headlining festivals and collaborating with artists such as Alison Krauss, Levon Helm and Emmylou Harris. Scanlan's new release,"Tongue River Stories," was written and recorded at a 100-year-old ranch in Montana. Scanlan plays the Grey Eagle on Friday, Sept. 6.
