Press Release

From National Forests in North Carolina:

FRANKLIN, N.C., May 19, 2014 — The U.S. Forest Service will host Kids Fishing Day events in the Nantahala Ranger District, Nantahala National Forest, on May 22 and June 7.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. The spring events allow families and friends to share fun, quality time together while learning about one of our nation’s favorite pastimes – fishing. The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission co-sponsors these events. No experience is needed for families to participate.

The May 22 event is for the disabled and will take place at 11 a.m. at Balsam Lake. Disabled anglers should register with the Ranger District Office, ph: 828-524-6441, prior to the event. The lake will be closed to public fishing on May 21-22.

The June 7 event will occur at 9 a.m. at Cliffside Lake. The event is open to kids age 15 and under. The lake will be closed to public fishing on June 6-7.

The fishing events are conducted as part of National Fishing and Boating Week, June 1-8, during which local events will occur in communities across the country that bring attention to America’s wealth of world-class, water-based recreation opportunities.
