Blue Ridge Now: Tuxedo residents work to move WWII monument

When Carl Taylor looks at the World War II monument in Tuxedo, he feels a personal connection. And not just because he is himself a Korean War veteran.

“I’m related to about half of them,” he said of the 166 names on a bronze plaque set into granite. “Most of these people are already gone,” he added.

With the help of community contributions, the monument was placed on land owned by Green River Mills Inc. and dedicated on July 4, 1947. Now another community effort — to build a county park on the former mill property — may give the marker a new home.
