The Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP) is gearing up for its annual Raise Your Hand Auction and Gala scheduled for October 11, 2014 at the Doubletree Hotel, Biltmore. The cornerstone of the auction is the Signature Piece of art. The Signature Piece competition is now underway. Artists from throughout Western North Carolina are invited to submit artwork for this coveted award. The winning piece of art will be proudly displayed in newspapers and magazines across the region, as well as on the poster, program cover, website, and other printed materials that support WNCAP’s event.

Last year’s winner was River Arts District Artist, Daniel McClendon. His winning entry was an oil & acrylic painting on wood entitled “Gazelle (Gemsbok)”. McClendon’s painting and sold for $3700 by acclaimed auctioneer, Andrew Brunk. Previous Signature Piece winners include Asheville artists Mitchell Lonas, Dawn Rentz, and River Arts District Artists Constance Vlahoulis, Karen Weihs, and Steve Janton.
In addition to featuring great art, the event will also offer a selection of fine wines, vacation trips, antiques, and special culinary delights from Asheville’s finest local restaurants.
