Democrat Brian Turner and incumbent Republican Rep. Tim Moffitt are in a statistical dead heat though Moffitt’s has a favorability problem among his base, according to a poll released on Wednesday. …
“Both candidates appear to have a legitimate shot at this seat,” said political scientist Chris Cooper at Western Carolina University who looked at the poll results for the Citizen-Times.
Turner told supporters in a fundraising email “we’re in the lead” and warned them of negative ads that are likely to characterize the race. Serious advertising on either side has not yet started. He also told them “we have a long way to go before November.”
