According to the Hendersonville Times-News, A few weeks ago, construction began on a new sidewalk on the south side of 191 from Justice Street — a block west of 25 — down to the Brookside subdivision just past Blythe. City of Hendersonville Engineer Brent Detwiler said the project was the catalyst for a sidewalk bond fund that passed in 2004, thanks to the push of a citizens group addressing safety concerns. The project was delayed so long, Detwiler said, because the city was waiting to hear from the N.C. Department of Transportation about its plans to widen Haywood Road. About 18 months ago, the city learned the widening project will be delayed for another decade.
